Hiding imperfections in your floors caused by dogs

It is often the best time of your day, the clackity-clack of your dog racing across your hardwood floors to greet you as soon as you reach the front door. But that kind of love and affection comes at a price, and it’s your hardwood floors that are paying. We can’t prevent your dogs from following you around the house, but we can help you hide the wear and tear so you can keep the problem “out of sight, out of mind” for as long as possible.

Hiding scratches, dents and imperfections in your hardwood floor

A beautiful hardwood floor can be a work of art, skillfully installed with love and craftsmanship. When it comes to love and art, common sense and logic go right out the window. The same principle applies to protecting your floors from your dogs. Logic and rationale says that a tough finish will withstand the pressure of playing dogs, in reality, the opposite is true.

It seems counter-intuitive, but when you have dogs and hardwood floors we recommend that you go with a softer finish. It’s true that this type of finish will wear out sooner, but when your dog digs in those nails as it runs to the front door to greet you, a soft finish will dent, not fracture. A dent in your soft finish is much less noticeable than a fracture in a hard aluminium oxide finish.

Using a matte or non-glossy finish will help hide dents and scratches from heavy foot traffic and pets. Noni organic hardwood flooring in the kitchen by T&G.

Another way to trick the eye into ignoring little dents and scratches is to go with a matte finish instead of the glossy. With less light reflecting on your floors, tiny imperfection are much less noticeable.

It’s the “out of sight, out of mind” principle.
