Running your hardwood floor boards with the natural light will hide tiny imperfections.

With something as permanent – and expensive – as new hardwood floors, you want to do your research, talk to some experts, and find inspiration wherever you go. We’re always told to look up, see the world, instead of looking down at your feet. But when it comes to choosing a hardwood floor, we give you permission to look down and get some flooring inspiration. You walk across hardwood floors more than you probably realize, but if you’re embarking on a new flooring project, you need all the inspiration you can get so that you can make an informed decision.

Look for the natural light sources in the room when installing hardwood floors

Where in your home is a big factor in the type of wood that will work. Colora patterns, furniture, and size of the room, will be taken into consideration, but when it comes to installing the planks, you also need to look where the natural light sources in the room are coming! There are ways to install your floors to make a small room bigger, but with a room with a lot of natural sunlight, the best installation pattern is to lay the boards in the direction of the light.

Allowing natural light to flow with your floors will also hide tiny imperfections in the installation. If you lay your floor so that the light needs to travel across several boards, any height difference in the floorboard will cause small shadows everywhere, making the room seem disjointed or flawed. You may not even notice the tiny differences in each board, but a big dose of natural light will point out every little discrepancy and variation amongst your floorboards.

Running your planks with the light will not highlight imperfections, and  it will make your room feel more uniform.
