We’ve already talked about the pros of solid hardwood flooring. However, there are also a lot of pros for engineered hardwood for your home. In fact, if you are looking to base your choice on sustainability, you may want to take a look at engineered hardwood.

Pros of prefinished engineered hardwood

T&G Engineered White Oak comes in eight standard colors, but custom colors can also be created.

What is engineered hardwood?

As the name would imply, engineered hardwood is engineered and consisting of many layers. The outer layer is going to show the species of wood that you choose for your floors. It is a thin hardwood veneer laid on top of layers of plywood. Sometimes, the inner layers will consist of either plywood, hardwood, or fiberboard. Whatever the material, the layering aspect of engineered flooring means that you get the beauty of solid hardwood floors in your choice of species, as well as a much more stable and climate-resistant product.

Less likely to warp, swell, or cup

Due to the layered design of engineered hardwood, you get a product that is much more resistant to changes in temperature. In a four-season state like Colorado, your floors are going to see many changes in temperature; each come with varying degrees of moisture. Engineered floors are less likely to warp and cup due to changes in moisture content, leaving your floors looking beautiful all year round.

Distressed engineered hardwood floors

Engineered distressed Acacia hardwood is rustic and charming.

When you cut a solid plank from a tree, you use a saw. Using a saw will cause a great deal of sawdust. It may not seem like much, but this sawdust will add up over time, and all the leftover sawdust is wood that is being wasted. When you make an engineered plank, you use a slicing technique, which minimizes the dust and, in turn, minimizes the amount of wasted wood. Furthermore, trees used to make engineered hardwood grow much quicker and are easier to replenish than slow-growing trees used to make solid hardwood.
