Hardwood is still the preferred type of flooring for any home. However, there are rooms in the home that are better suited to hardwood than others. That doesn’t mean that you can’t have beautiful hardwood floors throughout the home, but you need to know the pits and the peaks of wood flooring for each room.

Hardwood floors in the kitchen

Hardwood in the kitchen is beautiful, as long as you can control the moisture in the air.

When hardwood flooring is best

Hardwood floors are a classic flooring material. Wood floors add charm, warmth, and luxury to any room, and wood floors come in just about every style and color, so it’s not a surprise that wood flooring is still leading the pack. However, since wood is a porous material, there are places where you have to be careful with using wood. If you insist on hardwood throughout your home from top to bottom, then work with one of our fine hardwood flooring craftsmen to find the best hardwood floor for each room in your home. Whether you’re using solid or engineered, we can find the perfect wood for every room.

Living room, dining room, bedroom, hallways

Rooms like the living room, hallways, dining room, and bedrooms are ideal for solid hardwood floors. These are the rooms where it is easy to control the moisture content. Moisture is your biggest concern when choosing a wood floor, as the wood can have mild to severe reactions to excess moisture in the air. Of course, with the right installation, the wood will be properly acclimated to each room before installation to ensure that your floors won’t cup and warp. Besides concerns for moisture, hardwood floors bring warmth and elegance to any room home.

The kitchen

Choosing the right flooring for your home

Hardwood in the living room is the number one type of flooring.

A kitchen is prone to fluctuating temperatures, and as a result, fluctuating moisture levels in the air. This makes the kitchen a little tricky to fit with hardwood floors. However, it’s not impossible. When you choose a type of wood for the kitchen, you may want to look at engineered wood that is less prone to buckling and cupping. Plus, the floor finish in the kitchen should also be conducive to standing up to heavy foot traffic. It may go against logic, but a softer floor finish may be better suited than a hard floor finish. A softer finish may dent, whereas a hard finish may crack. A crack in the finish not only leaves your floors vulnerable to the excess moisture but is much more noticeable to the eye than a few dents.

The bathroom

While you can have hardwood floors in the bathroom, you have to be extra careful. If you want wood floors, you have to make sure that your bathroom has great ventilation and that you don’t leave puddles of water on the wood floors. We can help you find the right wood and finish, but for bathrooms, you may want to look for a tile or a vinyl flooring.
