You want the best for your house, and you chose hardwood for your floor. You may not realize that you still have a lot of decisions to make and that it is time to let your imagination go wild; the type of wood, the color, and the pattern, or a parquet flooring pattern! The various parquets include the herringbone and the chevron, the brick, the random, and the basket weave.
Herringbone and Chevron Parquet Flooring Patterns
- Herringbone Parquet
This is probably the most popular one in Europe; it will add a touch of sophistication to your home. The herringbone pattern is ideal for larger rooms but can also work very well in smaller rooms.
- Chevron Parquet
Chevron parquet is a type of herringbone found in mansions and castles around Europe. There is a sense of awe as you walk in a room with this parquet. The chevron can be laid either parallel or diagonally to the wall, has the effect of making a room look grandiose and spectacular.
What is the final difference between the two?
With the classic herringbone parquet flooring, the planks are placed so that they finish perpendicular to each other to form a broken zigzag, whereas, with chevron, the wooden boards run point to point and the ends are cut at an angle, thus creating a continuous zigzag.
Both methods are the most expensive ones. However, the final results certainly prove to be worth it; you have a gorgeous and stable wooden floor giving your home that special allure we all wish for.
Brick and Random, and the forgotten Basket Weave
- Brick Parquet
This is achieved with boards of regular length. The boards are arranged to form a layered brick pattern: an outstanding and eye-catching result.
- Random Parquet
For this type of floor, you will need blocks of wood of various length and let your creativity go wild. It is, of course, less structural in its installation. However, the result can be spectacular.
- Basket Weave Parquet
This is the least common pattern today. It can be achieved with almost any type of wood, and it can be done with two colors if you like. This pattern suits either larger or smaller homes, it can be fitted either diagonally or parallel to the walls, giving the room a sense of space.
You don’t have to choose on your own
