You are concerned about your carbon footprint and when it comes to house cleaning, this applies to your hardwood floor too. That means that you should be looking for eco alternatives, and here are some of the best we have found.
Water, vinegar and essential oils
Some of you may be familiar with white spirit vinegar for cleaning your kitchen or your bathroom. Well, it can also be used to clean your hardwood floor. Just mix 1/2 cup of vinegar to a gallon of water, and for fragrance, add 2 or 3 drops of essential oil like lavender, lemon or lemon and clove, for example.
If water is not recommended for the type of wood you have or if you simply feel concerned about using water, use vegetable oil instead of water. For this mixture, it is best to use a spray.
Plant Based Liquid Soap with Vinegar and water
This simple and effective mixture can easily be achieved using plant-based liquid soap, vinegar and warm water. It is a good choice if your floor is really dirty. You can also add essential oil if you wish. Just mix 1/8 cup of plant-based liquid soap with 1/8 cup distilled white vinegar to 1 gallon of water, add a few drops of essential oil. Use a damp, but not saturated cloth or sponge mop.
There are others, not so well known, which may seem a little bit strange: Tea Bags! That’s right! Ordinary tea bags will not only take care of your wooden floors by thoroughly cleaning it, but it will add shine and luster to it. So next time you’re making a cup of tea, don’t throw the bags away!
Then you have lemon juice and olive oil! It does sound more like mediterranean dressing but this mixture will not only clean your hardwood floor, it will also polish it. Add 3/4 cup of olive oil and 1/2 cup of lemon juice to 1 gallon of warm water.
All these wonderful eco-friendly wood cleaners will give your hardwood floors a real make over. They will look their best, and will smell wonderful too, while you care for the environment. For more information, please give us a call or visit one of our showrooms in Denver and Evergreen.
