These days you can find solid or engineered floors for more or less the same price. It used to be that engineered wood was a great alternative if you couldn’t afford solid wood, but that is no longer the case. Instead of thinking about the price, consider your lifestyle and your aesthetic style when choosing between solid or engineered floors.
The price of hardwood floors
Shopping for hardwood floors has never been easier with our new hardwood flooring catalog. You can search for types of wood using a variety of characteristics, including price point. We break down our price ranges into three categories:
- $6 or less
- $6-$9
- $9 or more
You’ll get great value on all of our wood, and you’ll see that we have a few options for solid hardwood floors at $6 or less. However, most of our “value woods” will be engineered.
Engineered wood
Engineered wood has the beauty of solid wood because the top layer of engineered wood is solid wood from many species both locally and from exotic places. The only difference is that the majority of each board is made up of several layers of plywood. These layers give engineered floors better resistance to moisture, which is beneficial for use in your kitchen, bathroom, or below ground rooms.
The only downside to engineered flooring is that they cannot be refinished as many times as solid hardwood floors. But, with a little maintenance and preventative care, your engineered floors will last as long as solid wood floors.
Solid wood floors
If you’re looking for solid hardwood floors on a budget, we have solid white oak and birch floors in the $6 or less price range. Both oak and birch are tough and can withstand heavy foot traffic. Both feature light, golden tones that have a beautiful texture, but the light colored wood also give you a great canvas to stain a different color if you prefer darker or gray wood floors.
