People want their floors to look good now and in the years to come, which means that they need to take special care to make sure they stay scratch-resistant. In this guide, we’ll tell you everything you need to know about how to keep your hardwood floor scratch-resistant and looking great!

Treatment

Should you stain your floors

Coatings are the most common way to protect your hardwood floors from scratches.

There are some simple steps you can take for hardwood floor maintenance and to create scratch-resistant flooring:

  1. Clean the floor with a damp cloth or mop, and then use a dry cloth or mop to dry it.
  2. Apply a thin layer of floor finish using a paintbrush.
  3. Wait at least one hour before walking on the newly sealed floor, or until it is dry enough not to leave footprints behind when walked on.
  4. For more shine and protection, apply another coat of wax polish. Make sure that you don’t walk on this new layer for 24 hours after application because your feet will rub off the fresh wax polish if you do so.

Finishes for Hardwood Floors

Coatings are the most common way to protect your hardwood floors from scratches. These coatings can be applied in a variety of ways and come in many different finishes. If you want a more natural look, you may want to go with an oil finish. Oil finishes also have the added benefit of protecting your hardwood floor against stains and water damage. A penetrating sealant is another option for making your wood floor scratch-resistant. This sealant needs to be reapplied every two years, but it’s worth it because this option is the cheapest way to keep your wood floor protected.
