Hardwood floors are so versatile that you can make them appear to match any aesthetic and decorative style. However, there is a certain quality to hardwood flooring and DuChâteau® hardwood floors have beautiful wood flooring options that are engineered to showcase the timeless and timeworn qualities of hardwood floors.

DuChâteau® hardwood floors

DuChâteau® hardwood floors are known for bringing out the unique character, natural variation and rich detail of the grain. The signature matte finish comes from using an all-natural, non-toxic hard-wax oil finish with no biocides, preservatives, or benzene. To engineer the natural look of antique timeworn wood, DuChâteau® uses four distinct methods: distressing, smoking, brushing, and carbonization.

Distressing the wood

Distressed wood is wood that is engineered to look like old wood. To get the best timeless look of aged, antique wood we always recommend that you look for hand-scraped wood. However, DuChâteau® hardwood floors are more than hand-scraped, they are hand-sculpted. Hand-sculpted floors have a more naturally distressed appearance. This method better highlights the natural contours of the wood, the grain pattern, knots and cracks that are characteristics of aged wood floors.

Smoking the wood

When you smoke the wood you are bringing out the natural tannins, giving the wood a deeper and darker hue. Often times, this method will bring out the natural gray tones for a more aged appearance. Smoking the wood will also bring out the natural variances in each piece of wood for a more authentic look.

Wire-brushing the wood

To bring out a bit more texture and add more “authenticity” to your aged floors we also wire-brush the wood. Wire-brushing will give your floors the appearance of having been worn and “lived in.”

Carbonization

The process of carbonization is a way to quickly take your wood through hot and cold fazes. Like speeding up time and seasons, aging your wood quickly and in the most natural fashion. Carbonization also helps to strengthen the wood.
