Speaking of a taboo subject regarding home deco, painting your hardwood floors might raise eyebrows and be seen as bad taste, yet, with imagination and creativity, skipping refinishing and opting for paint may be the ideal solution, and it never goes out of style.
So why paint your hardwood floor?
The style side
While stained hardwood flooring never really goes out of style, they need to follow the trends, just like the styles and colors of your home.
Midtown grey seems to be popular on floors, yet your imagination is the limit. You can create any designs and motifs, checked floors, and more. If you are going to use paint, it can match anything else, from the kitchen to the bathroom, to the living room.
The practical side
Maybe because of those raised eyebrows, you have the feeling you may regret it, and you still hesitate? Don’t. Or you hear that painting your wooden floor isn’t the smart way to refinish it? Wrong again. When you think about it, painting the floor is a lot easier and faster than having to sand it (think of the dust) and with all that comes with it, without mentioning the subsequent staining and sealing that goes on for days. Painting a floor is, by comparison, a lot faster, with just a low dust sanding followed by a couple of coats that will not take more than a few hours to dry. You also need to consider that if the hardwood floor has already been refinished a few times, it possibly cannot take much more of it. As for scratches, you needn’t worry about it: there are special paints like porch paint that works wonders and survives high traffic. Choose high sheen that will dry harder than the matte ones. Should you get a scratch, a small brush stroke will make it disappear in no time. Once dry, your painted wooden floor can be mopped just like any ordinary floor.
