Whether you are buying a new home or want to renovate it, whatever its style, you are most likely facing two choices: Wooden flooring, or tiles. So how do you choose? Both have their advantages and disadvantages, and with a little research, they are both equally affordable.

Wood flooring

The first and foremost sensation of wood is warmth. It is welcoming and cozy. The main advantages of wooden floors are that there are so many different types of wood, colors, grains, and plank size to virtually create anything you dream of. It is adaptable to any shape and size of room. A wood floor is easy to maintain, and when properly finished, is simply timeless. It looks wonderful in old classic homes as well as in modern ones. If you choose unfinished wood then you can let your creativity fly, as you sand and finish. Wood flooring is also highly recommended if you have under-floor heating. Finally, wood is not naturally water-proof, however, with proper treatment i passes the test and can even be used in bathrooms.

Tile flooring

This is a very popular choice in warmer climates, and like wood, it comes in a large array of shapes and sizes. Once tiles are laid, however, they are extremely hard to change. Tiles can be beautiful but are cold under the feet and they do not give this feeling of warmth and grandeur as wood does. Also, if you have small children, they are likely to hurt themselves more on a tiled floor than on a wooden one. One of the main advantages of tiles is, of course that they are naturally water-proof and easy to maintain.

Decisive points

While tiles may look like they are more practical, the versatility of wood and its many designs, its ageless beauty, and its sensation of warmth and grandeur, is hard to beat. Upon entering a home with wood floors, there is a feeling of awe that just isn’t quite there with tiles. There is, of course, no doubt that in the end, it is a question of taste.
