Wood Floors Made Simple

You’d think wood flooring would be simple.  Sadly, that’s not true.  There are so many questions to answer.   And you want to get it right.  If y0u you pick the wrong meal at a restaurant – no big deal.  Pick the wrong wood floor?  It’s expensive and time consuming to change your floor.

We pride ourselves on product education.   Stop in and we’ll help you sort through the many options so you can get the timeless, beautiful wood floor that’s right for you.

Benefits of UV Cured Floor Finish

The type of finish you choose sometimes comes down to how quickly you can get back to walking on your floors. Many conventional floor finishes take up to a week to cure, leaving some rooms out of commission for a while. This can be frustrating for both home and business owners. When you’re running a business, closing shop to refinish your hardwood floors is not an easy task. You know you need to do it, but the thought of losing business while you wait for your floors to dry can cause many business owners to put off the project. But, we’ve come a long way in the hardwood flooring industry, and new technology has increased the drying time of floor finishes making it much more convenient (and cost effective) for business owners to get their floors refinished. UV technology has allowed us to significantly reduce the time it takes for floor finishes to dry and reach maximum hardness. That means you can get back to business quickly. UV lighting is used to instantly dry some floor finishes, making this the finish of choice for busy home and building owners. If you can’t walk on your floors, that pretty much leaves the rest of the house or business shut down as well. The more quickly we can dry the finish, without compromising its integrity, the more quickly you can open the doors to customers and guests.
People always ask us, “What’s your hardest floor finish?” Well this new on-site UV-cured technology is it; 40% harder than our best two-component water-based polyurethane. Just remember that hardness affects WEAR resistance but not so much SCRATCH resistance – something still not pushed by the finish manufacturers!

Hardwood 101: Acclimation Time

We want to have the best performance for the longest term when it comes to your hardwood floors. Making sure that the wood has acclimated properly is one of the most important steps to a successful project and a long lasting hardwood floor.

Acclimation time will vary depending on the state of the wood when it gets to your space. At T&G we never rush the process. We let the wood take the time it needs to acclimate before continuing with the project. Photo: handscrapped hickory living room floor sample

Some companies will give you an arbitrary acclimation time for your hardwood. At T&G, we know that no piece of wood is the same and the acclimation time is completely dependent on the state of the wood as it reaches your home. The wood could be ready in a day, it could be several days. You just never know.

So, how do we at T&G deal with the acclimation process? Watch the video featured above!
