When you shop with us, you will get personalized guidelines that will vary depending on the wood type and finish. However, general best practices include regular sweeping, using humidity control (35-55% RH) and avoiding harsh cleaners like vinegar. A neutral Ph cleaner is best. Maintenance coat services are also available to refresh your floors.
Yellowing happens when your floor’s finish, especially older oil-based polyurethane, starts to amber. This is a result of the natural aging process caused by oxidation and UV exposure. This is more noticeable in homes with strong natural light. Our newer finishes will not yellow.
Light, more specifically sunlight, influences the appearance of hardwood over time. Consistent exposure to sunlight can cause some wood species like walnut to lighten, while others like cherry and exotic woods darken. Finishes can also amber depending on the type and quality used.
Let us help. Whether you’re comparing wood species or preparing for an installation, our team can walk you through your options.
